Their change of rule is not evidence based and the database is likely akin to a high school project. I am sure incidents will still occur without harnesses, possibly more so.

So sorry to hear you won’t be able to participate any more Annette. Have you tried a barkrun? Not quite the same, but more and more of them popping up now at parkrun locations.

Thanks for your comment Hannah. I took my dog out for a walk today and forgot to wear my waist harness as I was in a rush – made me realise how little control I have over her when she’s not attached to me at the waist, definitely wouldn’t be safe running with her. Be interested to see what happens moving forward with incidents at parkrun.

What about the other 90% of incidents! I’m so saddened by this new rule as my medium sized yorkie is much safer around my waste.

I support your comments. I wrote to Parkrun telling them it may mean I can no longer participate. I have narcolepsy and the risk of dropping their lead is more of a worry to me. I have more control when they are attached to my waist. This rubbish about going from side to side. They can run in front of me, which is safer than the side.
I don’t want to stop going to Parkrun, but unless I can find a safer solution to their new ridiculous rule, I may have no choice.
